So this past week I was in NYC. As opposed to most trips to NYC this one was not about a trade show, buying trip, shopping or visiting friends…per se.

This one was different. I did not have Jennie with me as I do for most trade shows, I did not do tons of shopping as we always do and it was not a vacation. …. but what fun it was just the same!

I went for a class taught by the amazingly talented and charming duo behind BLOGSHOP: Bri Emery of the blog: designlovefest.com and Angela Kohler, LA based director and photographer extraordinaire…remember this epic stop motion film?!!

oh my.. genius work by ODA Architecture. So we all know I love to cook- baking and I, on the other hand, just don’t totally understand each other (I maintain its the whole chemistry aspect of it all..or that I am a major control freak and cant stand not being able to monkey with things once they go into the oven..) Either way, the reworked facade of this 1950′s garage hits all the right notes with me..question now is..do you think they still roll?.. I could see myself just standing there spinning them all..

THE MADE IN THE 216 HOLIDAY SHOPPE!!

We are getting so jazzed for this Friday…. November 23rd (mmhmm, yep, black friday) marks the opening of our annual MADE IN THE 216 HOLIDAY SHOPPE here at R/S Boutique!! We are literally swimming in awesome local products for the Shoppe-really fun jewelry, great new prints, yummy candles, the cutest baby treats…you name it, we have gift giving covered- shop from the heart and keep it local this season!

R/S and the Holiday Shoppe will open at 11am November 23rd, party begins at 5 pm with drinks, tunes by DJ Peter Pleasurecruise, and the general revelry you have come to know from us.. The Holiday Shoppe will be open 7 days a week through New Years. Can’t wait to see you!!

remembering: venice, florence, pisa & cinque terre italy

I am going to repost an old post. BUT in my defense, the post was never on this blog, it was on my other blog (which is no longer in use) found here….AND I never completed the series. I had posted pics from all of the cities in Italy I had visited last February but never posted the last few cities on that trip: Pompeii, Naples & Rome.

It may seem like a cop-out, to repost old blog posts, but sometimes, it really is just nice to look back. Sometimes things from long ago can still feel relevant. the Cream NYC

Back in July (I think), Jennie and I flew out to NYC for just one night to attend a really fresh and inspiring modern bridal show produced by events duo Bash, Please. This wedding themed event called THE CREAM, is similar to other bridal shows only in that they too are comprised of typical wedding vendors such as bridal shops, photographers, musicians etc,. but that is where “typical” ends.

The girls at bash, curate their vendors to be only those that are design-focused, artistic, creative and not bent on tradition. This is EXACTLY the type of wedding and party planning business that we are starting here at R/S.

The website (including rates and packages!) for Weddings & Parties by R/S will be out soon and is looking really beautiful, we can’t wait to share it with you!!! In the meantime ... Read More »

Stumbled across the work of photographer Alicia Bock recently, and can’t get enough .. soft, dreamy, color drunk images that just feel so peaceful. I have become a bit fascinated with the concept of liminality recently…the state of transition, or places occupying a position at, or on both sides of a threshold.. it could pertain to physical place, or just a feeling of flux or “middleness”. Alicia’s work makes me think of the beauty and power of such a state. Certain cultures attribute mysticism and magic to those places, like the shoreline, or a intersection of two paths, or that time just before the sun rises or sets.. If you call Cleveland home, you probably share our love (and for me, mild obsession) with The Westside Market. As of this year, this absolute gem of a public market has been the cornerstone of Cleveland’s Near Westside for 100 years (!!!) Blocks from R/S, many an emergency bagel (or felafel) run has been made. My Monday ritual is absolutely lacking without a trip- headphones in, expansive menu in mind- to the Market ( and then inevitably to Great Lakes Brewing for an afternoon beer on the patio..). I’ve got “my people” for everything.. I have even coerced my lamb purveyor to let me intern as a butchers assistant..

The centennial of this landmark has inspired many festivities in our Ohio City neighborhood, and we are throwing our hat in the ring tomorrow with our CENTENNIAL MARKET, a retail ... Read More »

Oh why hello again.. our sincerest apologies for the radio silence…between some infinitely frustrating technology issues (sadly, we know the images are missing from our older posts, the fix on that one is defying us..) and some other major transitions we have just been, well, wrapped up. So, we apologize. But we are in fact, back at it again, so do make a habit of of stopping by and seeing what we are thinking of, loving on, and dreaming up for the good ship R/S. So what happens when you get 7 young, driven and uber-talented Cle designers together?? Well, all the things we Clevelanders can be proud of… innovatively designed, expertly crafted and locally produced goods. (Of the furniture variety!) Conceived by a collective of 7 designers, all recent art school grads, 2nd Shift Studio represents exactly the kind of passion and commitment felt by so many makers here in our city.
